Steel is widely regarded as the backbone of national economic development. A strong and vibrant steel industry has historically supported rapid industrialization across nations. India’s steel sector has witnessed significant growth—from a modest production capacity of 22 million tonnes (MT) in FY 1991–92 prior to deregulation, to becoming the second-largest steel producer globally, with production reaching approximately 149.4 MT in 2024. The current trajectory of growth aligns with the National Steel Policy, which envisages a capacity of 300 MT by 2030–31.

Ind Synergy Limited (ISL) was originally incorporated on 28th March 1985 as Goel Agro Forestry & Finance Private Limited. After diversifying into solvent extraction in 1993 and becoming a public limited company, it was renamed Ind Synergy Limited on 21st September 2005 to reflect its focus on steel, infrastructure, and construction.
In 2003, ISL entered the steel sector with a plant in Raigarh, commissioning Phase I (Sponge Iron 1,00,000 MTPA and Steel Billets 1,40,000 MTPA) in a record 11 months. Subsequent expansions added 2,00,000 MTPA of sponge iron and 3,00,000 MTPA of pig iron, employing over 2,500 personnel. By 2008, the company focused exclusively on steel, mining, and power.
ISL undertook major expansion under Phase III, including a Sinter Plant, Blast Furnace (~260 m³), Pig Casting Machine (500 TPD), Steel Melting Shop, and various mills. While partial facilities were installed by 2009–10, commercial production was delayed due to financial constraints and market conditions.
Between 2010-2015, the company faced operational challenges due to the global recession and raw material availability. In 2018, management control was transferred to the current promoters following restructuring with Edelweiss Asset Reconstruction Company (EARC).
Operations restarted in August 2018, with key facilities like the blast furnace and sinter plant recommissioned within four months. Today, ISL has stabilized operations and repaid its restructured debt ahead of schedule.
Ind Synergy Limited has demonstrated a successful revival and is now positioned for sustainable growth. Environmental Clearance (EC) for further expansion has been accorded by the MoEF&CC, which will strengthen operational efficiency and regional development.
